Research Forum: Archiving and sharing ethnographic research data and materials. How does this work and has anyone already done it?

Title: Archiving and sharing ethnographic research data and materials. How does this work and has anyone already done it?

When: June 28, 2024, 9:00-11:00

Where: Zurich University of Teacher Education

Speakers:
Sabine Imeri, University of Bremen
Michaela Rizzolli, University of Bremen

How can ethnographic materials - and researchers' knowledge of the contexts in which they were created - be archived and made accessible for further research, taking into account legal and ethical aspects? What exactly does it mean to provide access to ethnographic material? And conversely, how can archived ethnographic field research materials be searched for, found and reused?
In the workshop, we will show how the debates on research data management are translated into concrete procedures at the Qualiservice research data center (University of Bremen). Researchers who are already planning to archive research materials and make them available for reuse can also receive concrete information on archiving options and procedures and discuss the challenges of their specific 'cases' in the workshop.
Participants are not expected to bring a large amount of their own material. Specific questions and examples from their own research - also in detail - can be brought in.
